Mobile phones are probably the most popular consumer gadget available today. As a new more advanced and smaller phones seem to be released on a daily we have plenty to think about.

Last week it was the turn of the Korean giant’s mobile phone division with the UK debut of the KC910 ‘Renoir‘. The successor to the popular ‘Viewty‘, the Renoir is a slim device with a nearly full face touch screen.

LG are pushing the device’s multimedia credentials, highlights being certified DivX playback, Dolby enhanced sound and an 8 megapixel camera with lots of trick modes. The OS is a completely custom affair (not based on Windows mobile or Symbian) so it takes a little getting used to.

The major specifications of this phone are

1) 400×240 touchscreen

2) DivX support

3) 8MP Camera with Schneider-Kreuznach optics and Xenon flash. Camera modes include Blink detection, smile detection and blemish removal

4) ISO 1600 (low light) camera support

5) Remote camera trigger (a first for a mobile phone camera)

6) Included 3.5mm headphone adapter and a TV output

7) Windows software included to convert videos to DivX format

8) 8GB MicroSD card and SD Reader included

9) Can be used as USB / Bluetooth 3G modem

10) Bluetooth / Wifi / HSDPA 7.2Mbps

11) Built in GPS

First impressions are good and it’s a light, responsive device………..
