Volvo is making its first bold step into the D-segment saloon space with the new S60. Touted by Stephen Odell, CEO & president, Volvo Cars as the “most fun to drive car from Volvo ever”, this BMW 3 Series baiting sedan is up for launch in Europe this summer, with an India launch by January 2011.

A groundbreaking safety feature called Pedestrian Detection will be available in the new S60 and can detect pedestrians in front of the car and brake automatically if the driver does not react in time.

The car will be ready for launch in India first on diesel and petrol versions. Volvo sold 140 cars in 2009 in India and the S60 and XC60 are in the queue. S60 is targeted globally at 90000 units in the first year and 5 lakh units in another 2 or three years. The Indian market will have to shell out Rs28 lakh for this car base model and Rs32 lakh for higher models.
