Gmail added support for a HTML5 feature that has been recently included in Firefox and Google Chrome:selecting files using drag and drop. If you use Firefox 3.6+ or Chrome 4+, you can now add attachments by dragging the files from your favorite file manager to Gmail. When you drag the files, Gmail shows a drop zone where you need to place the files.

Gmail no longer uses flash uploader. Till now Gmail was using flash uploader for uploading multiple files. This feature is replaced using the HTML 5 feature which is available in Firefox 3.6+ and Chrome 4+. So now onwards users have no choice other than drag and drop to upload multiple files. Google also mentioned that they will enable this in other browsers as soon as they support HTML 5 feature.
