Transcend has launched its portable 128GB USB3 solid state drive. The 1.8″ SSD device is capable of transferring data at a speed of 260Mb/Sec. Since the device is SSD, it doesn’t have an moving parts inside it so it’s less easily damaged if you accidentally drop it.

Sony BDX-S500U External USB Blu-Ray Drive

Sony introduced its latest external Blu-ray drive BDX-S500U. The BDX-5500U can burn data to dual-layer discs at a maximum rate of 4x, as well as single-layer BD-R media with a 6x speed.

The BDX-S500U drive can record up to 50GB of data for random access storage and backup on BD-R (write once) or BD-RE (rewritable) discs, or up to 220 minutes of high-definition 24M bps MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 video on a BD-R/RE 50GB disc.

The drive also records standard 4.7GB DVD+/-R discs at up to 8X speeds, 8.5 GB DVD+/-R Double/Dual layer at up to 4X, DVD+RW at up to 8X, DVD-RW at up to 6X, CD-R at up to 24X, CD-RW at up to 16X, and supports DVD-RAM recording at up to 5X speeds.

Online retailers are listing prices in the range of $214 to $240.

Seagate has just announced the industry’s first 1.5TB portable external drive in the form of the FreeAgent GoFlex Ultra-portable. The drive ships with USB 3.0 connectivity giving you speedy data transfers and is also backwards compatible with USB 2.0. 1.5TB GoFlex ultra-portable drives are compatible with both the Windows® operating system and Mac® OS X computers.
