Firefox 5 only comes with two additional features of note. The first, support for CSS animations, gives web developers the ability to add a little extra flair to their pages. This could include making text slide into place across the browser or having different elements of text magically appear as different parts of an animation hit, to name a few examples.

The second big feature found in Firefox 5 specifically relates to Mozilla’s rapid-release model. In this case, Mozilla’s added an option to allow users to more quickly switch between one of the three main development channels in the rapid-release cycle: Aurora, a version of the browser where most proposed features are introduced (and an iteration that’s much more stable than Mozilla’s nightly Firefox builds); Beta, a more stable test build of the browser for public consumption; and Release, the standard iteration of Firefox designed for all users to download.

Switching channels

1. At the top of the Firefox window, click the Firefox button, go over to the Help menu and select About Firefox to open the About Firefox window. For Windows XP: At the top of the Firefox window, click the Help menu and select About Firefox.
2. In the About Firefox window, click the Change link.
3. Click the drop-down menu to select the Release, Beta or Aurora channel.
4. Click Apply and Update to make the change and Firefox will download the latest updates for your chosen channel.
5. When the updates are done downloading, click Apply Update and Firefox will restart.

Title bar is the top most section of a window which contains the minimize, maximize and the close buttons. In Google Chrome smartly utilized this area for showing the Website tabs. But in Microsoft Internet Explorer 9, they just wasted that area. Chrome scored in this section.

Google Chrome was the first browser to come with a smart address bar powered by Google Search. When we start typing in the address bar the browser will search for the typed keyword and suggest what we are going to type. And also it will suggest popular sites which may be we are intending to surf. The Address bar also acts as the home for all the Extensions and Browser Navigation buttons like Back, Forward, Stop and  Reload. I will call it a very smart move.

In case of IE 9 the address bar is also shared for showing Website Tabs which is not so good looking. When the Google Chrome provides a much longer elegant looking address bar, IE 9 features a shorter address bar which makes the user not able to view the full url of the website. Sharing of address bar for tabs is also a bad idea. When multiple tabs are opened it will make the users difficult to identified the tab since the tab is shrined to a very narrow width.

Google Chrome only allows the user to search Google using the address bar search. But in IE9 users can add the search provider of his own interest.

Viewing Area

The sole purpose of web browser is to show the website to users. So the most important in user interface designing for a browser is the viewing area of the browser. When introduced Google Chrome was the browser which provides the maximum viewing area. But newly introduced Internet Explorer 9 has packed its components in such way that it overtook Google Chrome in this. IE9 now provides more area for viewing sites than Google Chrome does.

Status Bar

Both of the browsers eliminated a mere status bar to show the status of the website and its loading. Instead Google Chrome used a rotating circle to show the status of the loading, which is more than enough status for the user. But in IE 9 i haven’t found any status monitoring to indicating whether the site is loading. Thats a major flaw in IE9.

Task Bar

Even though task bar is not part of the browser but i felt it is necessary to mention it along with this to point out a very handy feature provided by the IE 9. When multiple tabs a re opened, you can see the thumbnails of all the tabs if your point your mouse cursor on the IE icon on the taskbar. This feature is not yet available in Google Chrome. Here Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 scored.

Over All

Even though Microsoft has made much effort to regain its position in Web Browser I dont think with IE 9 they just can’t overtake Google Chrome.

Perhaps IE9’s biggest selling point is hardware acceleration. The company has used four developer previews to show off the speed of IE9 compared to its competitors. IE9 harnesses the PC’s hardware to accelerate graphics, videos and text. The result is that IE9 is able to render heavy graphic interfaces far better than even Chrome or Firefox.
