Nokia Launches its first TD-SCDMA Mobile Phone in collabration with China Mobile

Nokia today announced the Nokia 6788, its first device for TD-SCDMA – China’s domestic 3G standard, at an event in Beijing. The Nokia 6788 is the result of close collaboration between Nokia and the world’s largest mobile phone operator, China Mobile.

Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA) is an air interface found in UMTS mobile telecommunications networks in China as an alternative to W-CDMA. Together with TD-CDMA, it is also known UMTS-TDD or IMT 2000 Time-Division (IMT-TD)

China Mobile Limited the leading mobile services provider in China, world’s largest mobile network and the world’s largest mobile subscriber base

Speaking at the event, said Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, CEO of Nokia:

“Nokia sees TD-SCDMA as being central to the successful evolution of 3G in China, and so is fully committed to this 3G standard. With a wide range of integrated China Mobile applications, the Nokia 6788 marks a new level of collaboration with China Mobile and offers enriched experiences to China’s 3G users. Nokia plans to introduce more TD-SCDMA phones in the near future, further boosting the development of this 3G standard in China.”

Nokia E63 First Look

1006News just in, from The International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Nokia will showcase the industry’s broadest and most exciting mobile device portfolio including the coveted Nokia N97 mobile computer, the multiple award-winning Nokia E71 and new devices announced for North America. CES also marks the first public debut in North America of the highly anticipated Nokia N97 mobile computer which has been repeatedly commended as one of the most stylish, functional and impressive converged mobile devices to date.

Additional devices being announced at the show are the Nokia 1006, Nokia 7510 Supernova, and Nokia E63 for North America, shipping at the first quarter of 2009, and retailing at just $279 USD.  The Nokia E63 will be available in ruby red or ultramarine blue and purchased unlocked through various retail channels in the United States including www.nokiausa.com, Nokia Flagship Stores in New York and Chicago as well as a number of independent retailers and e-tailers.

Further cementing Nokia’s commitment to the North American CDMA market, Nokia also introduced the Nokia 1006 – the latest CDMA device for AWS carriers, developed in Nokia’s San Diego product creation center. Ergonomically designed for on-the-go convenience, the Nokia 1006 is curved to comfortably fit a user’s face and hand, with a large, bright color display, and includes features like voice memo, speakerphone and a phonebook capable of holding 500 entries. The sleek device will be available in blue and silver.

Nokia N97 the latest outcome from the Nokia Company has already created a wave in the gadgets lovers. As the first look at the Nokia N97 tells us it is an impressive device. Nokia N Series mobiles are  always a step ahead from the normal mobile phones by them. This is the second from Nokia to support touch screen facility. Main features of Nokia N97 Mobile are

  • 3.5″ Touch Screen
  • 5 MP Camera
  • Slide-out Full QWERTY Keyboard

The touchscreen isn’t all. The phone also comes with an inbuilt GPS, and a magnetic compass for a wonderful navigation experience along with Nokia Maps, which comes preloaded with data on Indian Cities. Also included is a proximity sensor which turns off the touchscreen when you are making a call, and an accelerometer for auto-rotation of the screen. Storage comes in the form of 32GB memory which can be expanded by up to 16GB, yes, that’s 48GB on a mobile! Enough for the phone to run out of digits to show how many pictures can be taken. WiFi support enables a faster internet experience and lower costs when at home. A TV-Out feature is also present.
