Many of the bloggers use Live Writer or some other offline blogging applications to work with there blogs. Most of the offline blogging tools lacks many features that when compared to a Word Processor. But what happend if you come to know that the most powerful word processor Mocrisoft Word can help you in this case. Microsoft word 2007 came with this option, that allows the user to publish the post made to the blog. If MS Word has this facility then why should we use an appilcation just for this purpose that too with little features.

Here’s how to go about it.

The first time you fire it up through – Office Button —> New —> Blog Post, MS Office asks you to setup an account. You can also get around to your account through the ‘Manage Account’ button on the menu ribbon. The Blog accounts box allows you to add, delete, and set passwords and picture options for your accounts.

If the blog API allows the direct upload of pictures, you can set the picture uploading options too or keep it at ‘none’.

With the account setup completed, writing and posting is a cinch. The intuitive Word interface gives you two tabs to work with your posts – Blog Post and Insert. These two tabs bring all the user friendliness of Office to structure your post. After finishing the post, one can either ‘Publish’ or ‘Publish as draft’.

The release date for WordPress 2.8 has almost been confirmed, according to the latest blog post on the WordPress development blog, the target date for releasing WordPress 2.8 is June 10th.

WordPress 2.8 Highlights

Theme Browser and Installer

Ability to add Custom Headers

New drag-and-drop widgets admin interface and new Widgets API

New ways to customize dashboard widgets

Syntax highlighting and function lookup built into plugin and theme editors.

Configurable Views on Management Pages.

Faster Loading Admin Pages

Theme Browser and Installer

The earlier versions of WordPress made it much more easier to install and update plugins, WordPress 2.8 adds a feature to allow users to easily install and upgrade themes.

The theme browser provides users with a variety of options to search themes, the options provided are colors, number of columns width, features and more. In addition to that you can also search themes by keywords.

WordPress 2.8 also adds the ability to install themes with a single click, much like it does for plugins, you can also preview the themes without first installing them.

Custom Headers

Many themes come with custom headers that are included by default, changing them would require the users manually editing the theme, or in some cases using the theme options.

However with WordPress 2.8 users can now add their own custom headers, you can upload a image and crop it before applying it as the header image.

The custom headers feature will only work if the theme author has configured the theme to allow this capability, you can read more about the customizing headers feature.

New Drag and Drop Widgets and Widgets API

Widgets play a big role in allowing users to customize their themes without the need to manually edit the theme, WordPress 2.8 has done a huge overhaul of how widgets work, allowing users to easily move widgets between different widget areas with ease.

Users can now also use the same widgets on multiple widget areas, something that was not possible in the earlier versions of WordPress.

Along with the added flexibility WordPress 2.8 also includes a widget API that will make developing widgets much more easier than before.

Customize Dashboard Widgets

The Admin Dashboard in WordPress is a place where you get the most information about tons of things, however earlier versions of WordPress only allowed users to rearrange the widgets.

With WordPress 2.8 users can now specify the number of columns they want to see in the dashboard area, at present users can customize the view up to 4 columns.

Syntax Highlighting for Plugins and Theme editor

If you have ever taken a look the plugin and theme editors in previous versions of WordPress, it has been almost like you are viewing the code in a plain text editor.

However that is about to change in WordPress 2.8, as it adds syntax highlighting which resembles a proper code editor and also a easy way to lookup functions that are used.

Configurable Views on Management Pages

WordPress by default displays a host of information to the users when managing the content or comments, however not all users may find those information useful to them.

WordPress 2.8 allows users to easily configure what information should be displayed by using the Screen options on different management pages.

Faster Loading Admin Pages

The admin pages in WordPress 2.8 load much more faster than the earlier versions thanks to various script compression and concatenation that are used.

I did see a considerable increase in speed when compared to WordPress 2.7.1.

Other Interesting Highlights

These are not the only features that have been included in WordPress 2.8, if you are interested in learning more about the features in WordPress 2.8, take a look at the Version 2.8 document in WordPress Codex, if you want to test the new version, download WordPress 2.8 beta 2.

This post is about how to use pingback/trackback to get more links and contents for your blog.If you have a blog, you probably have 2 important things to ‘worry’ about.

1) Finding/writing quality content to post to your blog

2) Getting quality links to your blog

Here’s a proposal on how you can have both at the same time!

The idea is to use the pingback/trackback feature that comes with a WordPress blog.

Here’s a typical scenario:

- Person A writes something on her blog.

- You read her blog and have some afterthought.

- You blog about your thought in your own blog (hence more content for your blog).

- You either pingback or send a trackback to Person A’s blog

- Person A’s blog receives the pingback/trackback and displays it as a comment to the original post, linking it back to your blog (hence another link juice for you).

Now, for this method to work, 2 things must be ready:

1) Person A’s blog must allow trackback and pingback

2) Ideally, person A’s blog sets “DoFollow” for her trackback and pingback.

How to know if a blog allows trackback and pingback?

Simple, just check out the blog and see if there’s any trackback or pingback links. They are either in the comments section or a section on its own.

How to know if the trackback/pingback has “DoFollow”?

If you use Firefox, you can install a plugin called SEO For Firefox. The plugin will highlight links with “NoFollow”. Any link without “NoFollow” is “DoFollow”.

How to create a pingback or trackback?

1) First, it should be enabled in your wordpress blog. You can do that by logging into Options » Discussion – and making sure there is a check mark next to Attempt to notify any Weblogs linked to from the article (slows down posting.).

2) Next, write a post and link back to the original post.

In most cases, Pingback will happen automatically and there is no need for you to send any trackback.

A note on “DoFollow” trackback and pingback

WordPress blog, by default, has “NoFollow” trackback/pingback link. If you own a blog and would like to advocate “DoFollow” for trackback and pingback, you can install Dofollow Trackbacks Plugin.

If you decide to do that, write a comment below to let our readers know you advocate “DoFollow” on your blog. Who knows, some readers may decide to read your blog and pingback to your blog

All WordPress users are waiting for the release of the WordPress 2.7 stable version. Already WordPress 2.7 Beta 2 was released on the 6th of this month. WordPress 2.7 is coming with many amazing features that all WordPress users were looking to.
Wordpress 2.7 was coming with an entirely now layout for both dashboard and the user interface. The new dashboard is designed in such a way that to make the authors of the blog feel very comfort and easy blogging.

Some of the striking features of WordPress 2.7 are

•	Automatic upgrade
•	Upgrades and installs over secure FTP
•	New design/layout
•	Sticky posts
•	Inline PHPdoc documentation
•	Bulk editing of posts
•	Screen Options to hide/show modules/columns on screens
•	QuickPress
•	Navigation expand/collapse in two directions
•	Add media without creating post
•	Drag and drop on dashboard and post screen
•	Quick Edit inline editing
•	XMLRPC Comments API
•	Revised Dashboard
•	Comment threading and paging
•	Plugin browser/installer
•	Comment reply from admin
•	API additions
•	HTTPOnly Cookies
•	Shortcuts menu

In these features I like the automatic update the most amazing. By this feature a main headache of a blog admin in almost lost. Otherwise it was very difficult process to switch to the latest version of WordPress. With this feature if a new WordPress is released, it can be updated to the latest version in a click of mouse.

Let’s wait for the release of the stable version of WordPress 2.7.
