Microsoft Likely to Buy Skype for $7 Billion

Microsoft is on the verge of snapping up internet phone company Skype in a $7 billion deal. The deal could be announced on Tuesday.

Skype is an internet phone company. Last year Skype-to-Skype calls accounted for 13% of all international call minutes in 2009; of the 406 billion international call minutes, a total of 54 billion were used by Skype calls.

Windows Phone Mango (WP 7.5) Updates Revealed

Microsoft is all set to release the next major update for its mobile operating system Windows Phone. The new version is codenamed Windows Phone Mango with version number 7.5. The details of the updates are spreading over the web. The new release will have several updates in features.

The major updates will include improved multitasking and some augmented reality features. Bing Audio, Bing Vision and turn-by-turn voice directions will be new features in the WP 7.5. Bing Audio helps you search for specific songs by letting the phone hear whatever song is being played. This feature sounds very similar to Shazam or SoundHound. Even though it would be simple to simply download an app with similar features from the Windows Phone Marketplace, integrating it the Windows Phone operating system draws users into the Windows Phone ecosystem even more.

Microsoft is testing a new “Fix it Center“–an online and PC-based tool for helping users solve their Windows technical problems. The service, which went into beta on Thursday, consists of both a Windows download and an online service. Download Microsoft Fix it.

Fix it Center finds and fixes many common PC and device problems automatically. It also helps prevent new problems by proactively checking for known issues and installing updates. Fix it Center helps to consolidate the many steps of diagnosing and repairing a problem into an automated tool that does the work for you.

Automated Troubleshooters

Upon installation of the Fix it Center client, it automatically downloads the latest troubleshooters in our library to your PC. The troubleshooters can “find and fix” issues immediately or “find and notify” you of the issues it detected. The “find and notify” puts you in control – you decide which issues you want the troubleshooters to resolve. No matter what you choose, we show you a report of what was performed on your PC and offer you options to learn or further investigate the issue or submit a support request at Fix it Center Online.

Personalized Experience

When you create an account during the setup of Fix it Center client on your PC, a profile is automatically created for you at Fix it Center Online. During the setup of the client, Fix it Center detects your hardware and software information and securely stores it to your online profile. This information enables Fix it Center to offer and display solutions that are specific to your PC configuration – in an easier to understand manner and without search or information overload.

You can install Fix it Center client on as many PCs you like, and when you use the same sign-in account during the client setup on each PC, the information about all your PCs will be registered in the same account. This makes it easier for owners of small business or heads of families with multiple PCs to manage all computers from a single location yet can view solutions specific for each PC.

Microsoft Office 2010 is Ready for Release

Microsoft Office 2010 was under development and various beta versions were available for download from the Microsoft site. According to the latest news coming, the Microsoft Office 2010 is ready for the mass distribution. Product downloads for Volume License Partners begin on April 27th, while general customers can expect to see Office 2010 on shelves starting in June.

Microsoft Office 2010 had one of the largest software beta tests ever; it’s the same approach the company took with building Windows 7, a tactic seems to have paid off for the technology giant.

“Since the start of our public beta in November 2009, we’ve had more than 7.5 million people download the beta version – that’s more than 3 times the number of 2007 beta downloads! The feedback that we’ve received from all these programs has shaped the set of products we’re excited about, and that I’m sure will delight our customers,” said Microsoft Corporate Vice-President Takeshi Numoto in a blog post earlier today.

Microsoft Office 2010, codenamed Office 14, is a productivity suite for Microsoft Windows, and is the successor of Microsoft Office 2007 for Microsoft Windows. Office 2010 includes extended file compatibility, user interface updates, and a refined user experience. It will be available for Windows XP SP3 (32-bit), Windows Vista SP1 and Windows 7. With the introduction of Office 2010, a 64-bit version of Office will be available for the first time, although only for the Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems.
