Enhanced Yahoo Mail and Yahoo Messenger 10 Beta Announced

Yahoo has announced the availability of latest beta version of Yahoo Messenger 10, which comes with lots of new and exciting features. According to Yahoo, the webcam feature is completely redesigned, now users can make high-quality video calls with synched audio right in the IM Windows. New features in the webcam include the ability to swap video windows, position the video windows side-by-side, mute the call or place it on hold. You can even go full-screen with your video call. To get started, click the new “Video Call” button in the IM window.

Yahoo Messenger 10 also includes updates feature by which you can see what your contacts are saying on Twitter, reading on Yahoo! Buzz, listening to on last.fm, and more.

Apart from announcing Messenger 10, Yahoo also announced the all new enhanced Yahoo Mail which has gone in for a redesign and also enhanced with features like integration of third party apps Picnik, PayPal, My Photos and Big Sender. The new look of Yahoo Mail is refreshing with less clutter and ads.

The new attachment feature, will enable to drag and drop photos into your emails, upload multiple attachments and even upload whole folders at once. You will also be able to view thumbnails and rotate your photo attachments before sending them to your friends and family.

The new Yahoo mail will be rolled out gradually over a period of time to all users.

Yahoo Launched its Social Networking Site SpotM

There is another social networking site too open for you to register. Yahoo introduces its Social Networking Site SpotM, SpotM is mainly targeted on Indian Youngsters. Yahoo may be launching this networking site because of the huge hit of orkut in India. But I think that Indians are already bored of these social networking sites. There are many surveys are going on this topic. Anyway let we look for what all surprises are along with SpotM.

I wonder why is yahoo’s soial networking site spotm still in beta. i had applied for the invitation of SpotM when
I wrote about SpotM two months ago. Till now I have not got the invitation. i wonder how many you got it? When I check SpotM site, I found it still in the beta. Why is it so. Is yahoo not careing about SpotM? They may be inventing any features that orkut and other social networking sites do not provide. In the first report of SpotM they claimed that they are going to introduce SMS based chat system in SpotM. But Google has already conducted the beta run of the SMS chat recently. So Yahoo have to come up with some features other than this. Lets wait for it with hopes.

Last week Yahoo! India has launched a social network only for the Indian market called SpotM just like orkut.SpotM plans to target users in the 16-24 age bracket. Don’t ask how they will enforce the age bracket rule because the site is currently in a closed beta version.

As per blog coverage of the announcement, it has

Strong privacy features like anonymous friends and chat
Mobile integration like SMS alerts etc.

Privacy features may be the first of its kind, but most of the popular Indian social networks are already on mobile through SMS, WAP and Apps. Check out the mobile websites of Orkut, Facebook and BigAdda.

Orkut, with Facebook fast catching up and BigAdda doing big promotional activity through TV advertising etc which dominating the social networking in India . Among notable others, MySpace launched its India site in April this year.

Yahoo! can become a social networking leader through product innovation or by building upon its sizeable Yahoo! Groups and Messenger user-base in India. But the track record of yahoo is not a good indicator,as both mash and 360 shutting down earlier this year.

Yahoo has about 26.7 million users those uses internet in india with over 33 billion page visits per month.Yahoo has an 11 percent market share on the total page views per month.Anyway yahoo launches their new site in india due to the highly influence caused by Orkut.But from now onwards there is a great conflict between SpotM and orkut.
